1999 Alfa Romeo 156 Selespeed review from UK and Ireland
"You pay for your pleasure"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I had the car about a week and the fuel flap would not open, I carry a screw driver in the car to open it. The spring clasp will cost about 15 euro, but a new flap which will require painting will cost 100euro in total.
After 8 months the selespeed actuator light started appearing and the car would not engage gear. The local dealer said this was due to a leak in the unit, they replaced the lost fluid and this worked for 2 months, and then it started again in heavy traffic in dublin.
I had to replace the actuator unit at a cost of 1200 euro and 500 for fitting. It seemingly took 2 units before it worked.
The Radio/CD gets very hot to touch the LCD screen.
General comments?
The car is Fun, fun, fun to drive.
It has everything I wanted in a car.
My advice to anyone is to buy second hand with the highest spec you can get and run it into the ground-as you will lose thousands trying to trade in.
I saw a 1998 1.8 with 50K miles going for 4 grand.
Absolutely will not hold there value.
