1998 Plymouth Breeze Sedan review from North America

"A Scary money pit!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My car was a special order. The first night we drove it home we realized the Master Cylinder was bad and had to return it. Chrysler's new car warranty covered the replacement of the head gasket. Unfortunatly, in Oct. 2003, at 57,958 miles, the head gasket had to be replaced a second time, along with the timing belt, thermostat, and water pump! The total cost was over $1,500!

The master cylinder has been replaced twice. The first time at approx. 12,000 miles. and again in Nov. 2003, at 58,245 miles.! The first time the warranty covered it and the second time it cost approx. $675!

Rear brake cylinders have been replaced at least twice in the last two years.

The radio/tape player has been repaired once and replaced once. It was replaced approx. 2 yrs. ago and now something is wrong with the electrical because it won't light up and the mechanic says it is internal.

Other repairs done in the first 2-3 yrs. of ownership included exhaust leaks, transmission leaks, windshield washer jet replacement, broken emergency brake handle, and replacement of missing engine bolts. Some bolts apparently were forgotten during the assembly process!

Currently, the trunk release is not working.

General comments?

Despite all the recent brake repairs, the brakes still feel soft and at times seem to go almost all the way down to the floor. My mechanic says that I have only 20-30% of the brake pads left. I am easy on the brakes and don't do a lot of driving. I really am finding this hard to believe since the brake pads were last replaced only 8 mo. ago when the master cylinder work was done! This car goes through brake pads like water, they have been replaced twice in the last year approx.!

Since the brakes have failed on me twice in the last year and still appear to not be working right, I am afraid to drive this car down steep hills and try to limit doing so!

Stopped taking the car to dealer for repairs because they are so expensive and in the past my ex-husband found that some repairs being done under warranty were not actually done! Had that confirmed by another dealer and complained to Chrysler Corp. but nothing was done about it!

Would love to get rid of the money pit, but I can't afford a new car and am afraid that a used vehicle might be worse!
