1991 Ford Sierra LX review from UK and Ireland
"Probably the best car you can get for a few hundred pounds"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Mirror housings keep dropping on their attatchment to the door, though this seems to be a common fault.
The coolant sensor switch on thermostat which works the fan broke, but a replacement was only a tenner from the Ford garage and was easy to fit.
General comments?
This is a sound carwhich has proved to be very simple to repair, although it has to be said some parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find now, such as good replacement door mirrors and rust free panels.
The car has reasonable performance whilst slow off the mark is quite powerful mid range in 3rd and 4th gear. It would sit all day at 80 mph.
A very comfortable car indeed, it is great for travelling long distances in, there are few other cars that I can think of which are as comfortable. The driving position is excellent.
It does n't have such good handling, it is very softly sprung so is not a car for speed. Some stiffer springs would be much better. Handling is quite predictable.
At MOT time the car needed some welding theo the floor above the jacking points, though I am told this is a common problem on almost all Sierras.
Very reliable, it only had one hiccup when the car overheated due to the coolant sensor giving up.
