1992 Chevrolet Corsica review from North America
"My Corsica has provided me with several years of reliable, economical, comfortable transportation"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fuel Pump Relay @ 44000 miles
Alternator & belt tensioner @ approx 130000 miles
Ignition module @ approx 140000
brake lines & hoses @ approx 170000.
General comments?
Reliable - After driving this car approximately 140,000 miles it has never stranded me once. Did have to limp home once or twice, but still made it (ignition module and brake line failure)
Economical - I drive approximately 75 miles to & from work each day, if I treat the car nicely I can get close to 28 MPG, but I usually beat the crap out of it and still get 25 mpg. Also, considering that over the course of 7 years and 140,000 miles I've put maybe $300 worth of parts into the car (not including brakes, rotors, brake drums, belts, hoses or tires because this stuff eventually goes bad on ANY car). When something eventually does break, which rarely happens, I can go to the local U-pull-it salvage yard where I will find a plethora of Corsicas. For example, when I needed an ignition module I got the module and three coils for $12. I do my own maintenance so I'm also not including labor charges, but I've found the Corsica easy to troubleshoot and repair. And even new replacement parts are quite cheap, at least compared to my friend's Audi, lol.
Performance - This car accelerates quickly and will easily run 100 mpg. Handles OK. What else do you need???
Overall, this car has held up really well. I live in NE Pennsylvania so winter road salt is pretty harsh, but there's very little rust (no rust through that I know of) and with a wash & wax it still almost looks like new. No problems with the power windows, locks, air conditioner (still has original charge), engine, transmission (never bothered changing the fluid, still looks fine). Interior is comfortable has held up well. Not very glamorous, but by far the best car I've ever owned. Did I mention that it's like a tractor in the snow?
