1987 Toyota Tercel 4WD Wagon review from North America
"No frills, but all business."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have had to replace the constant velocity joint boots on a regular basis. I live in Northern Canada where winter temperatures drop into the mid minus 40s and stay there for weeks at a time. I can understand how things get brittle at these temperatures. I will be looking into purchasing leather boots instead of original equipment manufacturer plastic.
The head gasket went at about 50,000 kilometers. I have also replaced the McPherson struts, brake shoes, pads, repacked wheel bearings, etcetera.
General comments?
This vehicle is very dependable. It starts in the coldest weather. I have driven on highways during snowstorms and it just keeps on going. I recall one time when an owner of a front-wheel-drive vehicle pulled over and waited for the snowplow to do the road. I drove on. No fear with this car.
I intend on passing this car down to my teenage daughter. I'd like to purchase perhaps a Toyota van or a crew cab Tundra.
