1995 GMC Jimmy SLE review from North America
"Poltergeist Greedy Gremlin Named Jimmy"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I replaced the transmission with a rebuilt.
I replaced all the pulleys.
New alternator.
New air conditioner the Whole system compressor lines etc.
New distributor (somehow It cracked)
Entire fuel system, lines, fuel pump etc.
2 EGR valves. (these are not cheap either)
Power steering gear box and lines.
New radiator and lines.
All new hoses in the engine.
4 mufflers.
1 catalytic converter.
every possible sending unit sensor that jimmy possesses.
2 sets of brakes all around.
The entire front end from the tie rods to the pitman arm oh yes! and bushings.
The airbag bursted open on its own when I slammed the door. ($500.00)
Sounds like a Sherman tank with all the rattles.
I have a rough idle when I am sitting at a light. They think its the spider which has to do with the fuel injectors.(which isn't covered on the warranty)
This beast is a gas guzzler and its only a 6 cylinder, it thinks its an 8 cylinder, but drives like it has 4 cylinders.
The motor went out on the side view mirrors.
The center interior keeps blowing up cause it gets to hot.
General comments?
When I first saw the jimmy I was like this is a neat looking SUV sleek and sporty.
Was I way off! I know your gonna say at 100,000 miles you gotta expect some stuff to go wrong, but in 2 years in owning this beast I spent triple what I bought it for.
I don't like the 4x4 switch above the radio. I have hit the 4x4 switch so many times while driving and attempting to turn the volume up.
The seats are so uncomfortable, and if you have bad back problems this is not the truck for you.
The back seat bench seat is not roomy at all you almost feel squashed.
Trying to hook up a baby seat is no fun in this truck because the bench seat is in a awkward position.
I am not happy that GMC refuses to recognize that this vehicle has a lot of pricey mechanical flaws. that certain defects will always continue to happen usually within every 50,000 miles.
So do yourself a favor avoid Jimmy like the plague and don't get suckered into the allure of the body style or extra features of the truck.
I plan on trading it in and buying the Nissan Quest!
