1999 Vauxhall Corsa 1.6 16v Sport review from UK and Ireland
"Old better than new"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Removable stereo security panel broke.
General comments?
This was a fantastic little car.
The engine was a cracking little unit giving good performance and good fuel economy (same engine used in the Vectra and Astra apparently). It was quite easy to leave bigger cars standing along with the idiotic baseball cap brigade in their XR2s!
Handling is best described as entertaining as although this was a facelifted Corsa with suspension tuned by Lotus, they hadn't done a very good job, as a consequence the back end was very twitcy and it rolled quite a bit, but was a bloody good laugh.
I've always liked the interior better on these than on the new Corsa, and after having a new shape Corsa SRi for a while, I also preferred the drive, the seats are definately better as is the ride.
The only real critiscm I've got is they look a bit boring, especially compared to the Corsa GSi which had the same engine. You can pick them up pretty cheaply now though-if you buy one you won't regret it.
