1985 Buick LeSabre Limited review from North America

"A competitive beast with a smooth, acceleration dominance"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

What I see as minor issues are, the ceiling fabric liner drooped so low it obscured driving view and had to be removed.

Driver's side door lock is stubborn, meaning key has to be forced, jammed, and pushed into it.

I had to remove the exterior wide trim for the roof vinyl, after one of the loose sections had fallen off and was entirely lost somewhere on the highway. (I am in a hunt for its replacement.)

Water pump recently had to be replaced.

Rear view mirror fell off and had to be reattached.

In winter weather, I soon found out, if I neglected to add a gas treatment with each refuel, the car gurgled and choked on the gas.

Regardless of weather conditions, I found it will idle wacko if it wasn't fueled with the gas grade; super.

General comments?

The car is a beast; it has maintained its immensely strong, quick jump into acceleration and it purrs with a smooth engine hum.

The ten-minute morning idle time, typical for most, older cars, is really not necessary with this babe; pump the gas, turn the key and it's fully awake, ready to go.

The drive is like a floating cloud and it hugs the turns as easily as a new car.

It never falters to accelerate quickly, regardless if it's from a stand still, from 65 mph to 85+ and there is no struggle to keep up on a steep hill.

I occasional drive this car very fast; entirely off the speed dial, there is no shake, no rattle just pure, smooth dominance.

All electrical elements; driver's three tilt power seat, windows, door locks, radio and mirror still work perfectly.

Passenger manual seat glides into position with no hesitation.

All seat belts work smoothly.

Cruise control and its panel indicator works perfectly.

Heater blasts, air conditioning is ok.

The interior velvety seats are still lush, comfortable and have retained a perfect form.

The paint is original and is still brilliantly shiny as if new.

The chrome of the front grille and bumper, front and back quarter bases, door bases, inner foot boards, and mostly all exterior/ interior trim are all nearly like new if not entirely like new.

The exterior vinyl trim is smooth, un-cracked and has adhered tightly and boasts a wonderful condition.

As a bonus, because I purchased it from the original owner, I also have the LeSabre's limited edition's portfolio, the encased manual, two sets of the limited edition keys, and the limited edition key chain.
