1994 Dodge Stratus SE review from North America
"Avoid this car at all costs"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Spark plug seals began to leak oil into the spark plug chamber at 138000km.
Trunk release handle broke.
Replaced the shifting solenoid pack at 139000km.
Replaced the transmission control computer at 139500km.
General comments?
A lot of expensive repairs in a short amount of time.
The car did not seem to have much power for a 2.5L V6 when compared to other automatics with similar engines.
Poor response time. If for whatever reason you needed to floor it (say to avoid a collision) there would literally be a 2 second gap between the time you stepped on the gas till the time your torque converter kicked in.
The car took forever to fill with gas because the neck of the fuel tank is much too thin. Not only that, but gas would spit back at you from the breather tube.
The "limp mode" feature built into this car has got to be the worst idea ever. If the car detects an error from one of its many sensors it will lock the transmission into first and second gear so that you can get to a dealer and fix the problem without further damage to the car. And theres not a damn thing you can do about it. I should not be forced to fix my car in this way! Not only that, but the car can go into "limp mode" no matter how fast you are going. Imagine doing 120km/h on the highway and being forced into second gear. You don't need to be a car expert to know the results.
I was very impressed with the handling of this car. It rides very well and takes corners like a sports car.
Very comfortable and roomy interior.
