1992 Honda del Sol Si review from North America
"Not a sports car, but can't be beat for its money and gas mileage"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Timing belt was replaced at 100k (i didn't own the car then)
Hole in the air filter, dirtying up the head gasket.
Holes in the seat.
General comments?
This car is a great car. I have only had one single problem, although it was a little bit of work. The screws on the intake were stripped and punched holes in the filter box. I needed to replace the intake and clean the throttle body.
That being said this is a wonderful car. It drives better than any domestic with half the miles. I consistently get 39 mpg on a car wtih 150,000, although that's when my foot isn't heavy. Driving the car hard I get more like 29.
The great fact about this car is when you want it can be quite passive, with good gas mileage. But if you get past 5200 rpm the VTEC (Variable Valve Timing Electronic Control) kicks it in to be as fast as any v-6 I've seen.
The car handles phenomenal for a front wheel drive car (leading to expected under-steer). It's no Porsche, but has grace. Plus you can look good doing it. People always ask me how I afforded a car like this, till they see the Honda tags.
On a final note this car is wonderful for a person to learn the physics of driving in. Its powerful without excess, and won't spin out on you, while still having good road holding. Great for a high school student, or autocrosser.
