1992 Nissan Sentra XE review from North America
"Very reliable and low maintenace car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I had to replace the fuel pump with a new one - the pump that was on the car was used and packed up. The altinator packed up, rplaced it with one off a nx200 - replaced the starter and two battery replacements in 7 years. wires from the starter caught fire - I suspect it was due to the work done on the starter replacement - bad job. NB. The dealer did not do the job starter replacement. Replaced a rim, since I hit the curb - due to a reckless driver infront of me. Total major maintenace cost for me in the last 7 years: 300 Fuel pump replacement + labor; $280 for starter and labor, $ 185 for used altinator - replaced myself. Regular brake changes $160 for 7 years - do the brakes myself.
General comments?
The car drives the same as the day I bought it - the oil usage is minimal; fuel usage is average - but I must say that the fuel usage is better than a 2004 Hyundai GS at speeds of 120 km/h. I have just finished driving 2000 km during a 2 week vacation without having the car serviced. My maintenance over the years includes - Fuel system cleaning at MR Lube once a year. Changing the oil and filter when I have money hah! In my opinion - the best thing to prolong the life span of the engine is to add Dura Lube to the oil - it cause my engine to run so silent that I can hear myself breathe.
