1994 Ford Escort LX review from North America
"If they still made this car, I would buy another one today!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Replaced the heater core 3 times.
Head gasket blew at 105000 miles.
Replaced engine at 190000 miles (head gasket went again and warped head).
Heat shield for exhaust pipe popped its welds and rattles a bit at idle.
General comments?
I needed a "4 seater" (having a family and upsizing from a Fiero), so I looked at this car. For an "economy car" (an LX 4-dr sedan) that was only rated for 88 horsepower, I was surprised by the strong pickup and crisp handling of the car. It was like driving a go-cart on the Garden State Parkway, and slid through traffic with speed and ease.
I commuted 57 miles (each way) to work with this car 6 days a week, and never had any major trouble with it - all major "happenings" occurring while on my day off and local.
I still have this car, and it's still running strong.
