1992 Holden Commodore Exec review from Australia and New Zealand

"Good car for family and commercial use"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Headlining has sagged.

Windscreen wiper control susceptible

to falling apart.

Passenger side seat is twisted slightly.

Glove compartment susceptible to

falling apart.

Cable tie that secures coolant pipe

on driver side just behind temperature

controls comes loose, and coolant

falls on your legs when you take a left

corner.

Steering wheel grip detaches from inside

metal frame.

General comments?

The Commodore VP Executive is a good

reliable car, with excellent smooth

riding (Thanks to the newly introduced

McPherson strut). Special modifications

to the differential make it corner

even better than its VN predecessor, resulting in minimal body roll.

The stock exhaust and air intake seem

to limit its power capabilities and an after market custom exhaust and air filter is highly recommended to maximize

power and fuel efficiency.

The acrylic paintwork has maintained the car appearance and 12 years down the track it almost looks like new. Cut and polish should be avoided for this model, however plain wax polish works well and should be applied every 6 weeks as part of routine maintenance.

The engine and transmission are smooth and quiet. The seals ensure good noise insulation from the engine bay, which

maintains a feeling of safety and comfort behind the steering wheel.

On the whole the car has smooth riding with excellent power capabilities and a basic level of comfort. It is an affordable vehicle for the family with moderate fuel consumption. The VP is also great for towing applications and

puts out the necessary torque to fulfill this purpose.
