1996 Nissan Sunny Super Saloon review from Australia and New Zealand
"Absolutely marvelous car!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Absolutely nothing.
Windscreen wipers had to be replaced due too bad wear, but hey, that happens to all good cars.
General comments?
This car is a dream come true.
While it doesn't have remarkable acceleration, uptake from e.g. 50 to 100kph is quite quick.
While its acceleration isn't sports car style, its handling is. It has a bit of body roll, but that is more than compensated for by the excellent grip on the road surface. Your butt will lose traction on your seat before the car will lose traction on the road.
Stereo isn't magnificent, but that was quickly remedied with a new one.
Cabin is very spacious, even for a rather large guy like myself.
Airbag makes me feel quite safe.
Air conditioner works like a charm - a real dream come true. If you get into the hot car and switch on the air con, it doesn't turn into a blast furnace - it waits until the air con actually blows cold air, and then it turns the fan up.
Marvelous reliability - doesn't even use a drop of oil or water or anything - the only things I have to top up on every now and then are windscreen washer fluid and petrol.
It's extremely economical. NZ$50 per month is more than enough for petrol, with a daily commute.
All in all, I'll definitely buy another one! Judging from this car, the Sunny Super Touring (1.8-liter) will be the ultimate driving experience for those of us who haven't won the Lotto.
