1995 Mazda 626 LX review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I just got my Mazda in June of this year. I love my car. I cried for my car, even though I found out just 3 days after I got it that I was having a problem with my transmission. I was going to RI from CT and my O/D light began blinking. My father, grandfather, brother & cousin are all mechanics (thankfully) so I called my father and told him what was going on. He told me to turn the O/D off. On my way back to CT is when all hell broke loose. Just over the CT line the light began blinking again and I noticed that my car was smoking. I pulled over at a rest stop thinking that the car had overheated. When I got on the highway again about a half hour later my car started jerking, the RPM dial was going crazy and the car was smoking again. I called my father and he told me to get to the next gas station on the highway and put transmission fluid in the car it was none in there. Come to find out my front seal was leaking and I needed a new torque converter because I drove it so long without having it fixed the transmission punched a hole in it from the car shifting hard. Like I said my fathers a mechanic although he dosen't deal with Mazdas or rebuild transmissions (they said it takes too long) I was sent to the shop they the send their major transmission work to and the entire job cost me only $950. I found out that it is normal for the Mazda to blow out transmission fluid when it is too full, when something goes wrong with the transmission the O/D light comes on because the computer in the car will shut the O/D down, and to reset the O/D light a diagnostic will be needed and the are may have to use a Ford cartridge because Mazda and Ford did some work together (which is scary because I hate Fords). But like I said love love my car, I cried to get it, I cried when I got it, I cried when I broke, I cried when I found out that it was a lemon 2 days after I got it, I cried when I found out that I was going to have to come up with $950 and Lord knows if anything happens to that car I will have a complete emotional break down. There really not that bad, especially when you compare it to a 1989 Ford Tempo.
