1994 Peugeot 205 Mardi Gras review from UK and Ireland
"A cheap reliable 205 that you cannot fault"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought the car I had no problems the car on a whole felt well balanced. But after a month owning the car I heard a screaming noise coming from the front left of the car. I went to a specialist dealer to fix it and said that it was due to old age.
Then about 6 months later it started to miss fire. When I took it to the dealer he told me that my 1.8 Diesel 205 had a 1.9 Diesel 405 fuel pump and it was flooding the engine. When he fitted a 205 fuel pump I noticed a massive increase on performance and the engine makes a nice low 'grunt' noise when starting off at low revs.
General comments?
Well after blowing the head gasket on my old 205 D Turbo I would say that there is very little performance difference without a turbo.
It has many nice features such as Electric front windows, all round central locking, power steering, sun roof and working heater (As 205's have a reputatation for them failing).
I've noticed that the suspension on a standard diesel 205 is a lot softer and the car under steers severely.
It has a very bland instrument panel compared to the higher spec 205's which you have to deal with, as the speedometer likes to wiggle with old age.
