1999 Jeep Wrangler SE review from North America
"It's a durable ride for a rough road"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
All lighting in the vehicle went out at 35,000 miles which was fixed after researching a semi recall.
Transmission feels like it is slipping when on a slope from time to time. Started around 40,000 miles.
General comments?
This Wrangler certainly has its ups and downs. For one it's sharp and a real head turner. Especially when you add on lots of toys for it (which are extremely easy to do as most things bolt onto existing holes/bolts)!
The vehicle is extremely easy on tires and can hold its own in the snow, so don't be afraid to pull the lever for 4WD! Unless you're hot rodding this in the snow there's no real need to weight it down.
The top couldn't be easier to take off and put on. Unlike tops of the past, the new ones require only 1 person instead of 2 to work. Experienced users can have it up and down in 5-10 minutes or less.
The downsides are the poor gas mileage and poor road performance. When I bought the Jeep I was getting 20mpg, but it has slipped to 16mpg on a good day now. It's been cleaned and tuned, but still I can't seem to fix the problem.
Also the Jeep isn't meant for speed demons. If you have dreams of racing down the highway, you'd better hope it's a long highway because this vehicle takes forever to accelerate.
Overall if you want a capable vehicle that's fun to drive on and off road as well as a real chick magnet, grab one!
