1975 Ford F250 4x4 Explorer review from North America
"Excellent Farm Truck-Powerful and Fun to Drive"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The truck requires regular maintenance, which is to be expected with a well-used old pickup.
General comments?
This truck is very useful. We looked for one for a long time and could not find one in our price range that was not a road hugger. The engine has a lot of miles on it and had 3 low compression cylinders when we bought it from a friend. However, you would not know this by driving it. This is a very powerful truck. Quick acceleration and it does not blow any smoke. I am guessing at the mileage-I do not know how many times it has been flipped. The truck has some parts that are very hard to find which is a bummer. However, due to it's size, it is easy to work on for the home mechanic. It is also easy to crawl under. You don't even need a jack. We have a farm so it is very handy to haul feed, hay, etc. It gets a lot of looks when driving down the road, even with a slightly banged up body from hauling trees and stumps from the woods. This truck is a tank. We also have a 99 Toyota Tacoma, which we do not want to bang up so the Ford handles the tough jobs. Beautifully put together, and very strong and reliable. The truck is very good at providing warnings before it leaves you stranded. The bed is starting to rust so we are going to get a spray on bed liner to preserve the part that we use the most. I still see a lot of these trucks on the road so Ford has done something right! And it sure seems that they hold their value. Horrible on the gas, however. It has 2 tanks and costs about 60 bucks to fill them both. It gets about 8 miles to the gallon. It is very big so I feel safe driving it. I did have all of the lights rewired and reground due to sporadic functionality. I am sure this is due to the age of the truck and the Washington rain has taken it's toll. Probably not a good truck for someone who cannot afford regular maintenance.
