1986 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 420se review from UK and Ireland
"Nice comfy old bus"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Cold starting problems caused by faulty relay.
Rear door window and lock not working
idle speed too high.
General comments?
A great looking and comfortable car, you really have to work it to make it go though.
If buying one, you should not kid yourself that its going to be cheap to run. These cost the same as a house when they were new and this is reflected in costs. 18mpg average, and absolutely everything on the car is controlled by relay or ECU which means that by now there's been plenty of time for something to go wrong. don't even think about going to a mercedes dealer to fix it or for parts.
A suspension upgrade is worth the money as they handle like a barge.
