1998 Ford Taurus SE review from North America
"Started good; ended bad"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This car ran really well for the first three years.
Then we had problems beginning in (2002) with the rack and pinion and power steering gave out. That was an expensive repair.
Then the next year (2003) the transmission gave out. That was even more expensive.
In (2004) the alternator gave out.
Now in (2005) my oil light comes on for no apparent reason and the car automatically shuts off. The mechanic changed the oil pump and checked the pan to no avail. The only other thing he thinks it could be is motor damage.
General comments?
The car has a lot of miles on it and has served pretty well. Most of the miles are highway and it's not been handled rough so I think I'll let sleeping dogs lie and buy another car instead of having it fixed this time.
I really did like my car and really hate to lose it, but I think the motor should have lasted longer than six years.
