1994 SAAB 900 S review from Australia and New Zealand
"A comfortable, safe, nippy ride marred by the poor General Motors V6 engine"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Oil Cooler began leaking at 158,000km. This was replaced with external V6 Oil Cooler Kit, costing $1323.
Engine cut frequently after turning the ignition. Revving the engine prevented immediate stalling. This was rectified several times by cleaning the Crank Angle Sensor.
ABS Control Unit blew at 161,000 km causing ABS Warning light to illuminate on the dashboard. Replaced with second hand unit costing $814.
General comments?
This car is comfortable to drive, offering a great ride for cruising.
The build quality is superb compared with most other cars, especially the paintwork.
Even the 4 Speed Automatic transmission is very responsive, making it great for setting off and overtaking, quickly and safely.
One of the safest cars on the road. A Ford Falcon ran into the back of us causing a few small scratches to the boot paintwork and a small cut in the rear bumper, whilst the front of the Falcon disintegrated with the radiator ending up on the engine block spewing anti-boil onto the road. The Falcon owner wants a SAAB!
The General Motors V6 engine (same as in top end Vauxhall) is nowhere near as reliable as the true SAAB 2.0L and 2.3L engines.
