1986 Opel Kadett LS review from Cyprus

Engine blew and was rebuilt 3 months after I got it, however during that rebuilt everything in the engine compartment except the engine main body was replaced with new.

The exterior was again in bad shape when I got it so I striped it of paint to bare metal underneath of which a couple of rusty spots and a few irregularites from previous body work were found. All were fixed and repainted the whole thing. Also the rear door was mis figured so I just changed the whole thing.

The interior needed a facelift too, dashboard and one door panel cracked, the other door panel was of different color!!, carpet was worn a little. And although I wanted to do the interior as well I run out of funds so I left it at that fo a later time, all I did in this area was a good cleaning and casette player.

Three years ago I left the car to my dad during that time he changed the dashboard (color doesn't match) and upgraded to a CD player. However he did hit a post in the rear smashing its rear door. But the main thing is that since the first rebuild of the engine a radiator hose cracked two years ago my father paid no attention to the high temperatures resulting to another blown engine. At this point I had no time to rebuilt it so I just replaced it with an older one of the same type.

Over the past few months the engine gradually died so my father garaged it for me to find time to fix it and bought a new mazda.

Currently my father is pushing me to sell it to free up the garage, but I'm relactant since I cannot get more than 300 Euros for it and I feel really connected to it, I spend too many of my collage life fixing it.

Of course I don't mind going through the same process again, if I find the time, but also it was my first car I spend noumerous nights and days driving it just for the enjoyment of its drivability while I was a in college and had the time for it of course.

It was not lightning fast, but it had good acceleration, I did reach 150 miles per hour once to give it a try, but I'm not really the racing kind of guy, what I like the most is average speed on winding roads and that is why I loved its smouth ride and excellent handling.

The expression handles like it's on rails means nothing to this car this thing drives and handles like it's bolted down on the pavement.

To this day my opel and a cousins BMW have the smoothest ride and most comfortable seating/interior of any car I ever drove.

If I decide to keep it I'm going to rebuild the whole thing from front to rear, left to right, and top to bottom except the engine which I'm thinking of getting a bigger petrol engine to rebuild and install.
