2nd Transmission at 418,000 miles.

Numerous axle shafts (10 I believe)

General comments?

Probably the best $25,000 I ever spent. This van has been extremely reliable. I have been lucky in terms of the transmission lasting as long as it has in both cases.

ABS system on this van is horrible. It not only provides the Anti-Lock brakes, but it also provides the power brakes. When the ABS unit fails, your ABS not only fails, but the power brakes go with it. Very dangerous system. Covered under a Chrysler recall.

Van is extremely comfortable and quiet. Leather seats are nice for long trips as they are rather soft and cushy. Van is extremely quiet as expected from a Chrysler.

Digital dashboard is a really nice touch. Full instrumentation and tach, plus a visual information center that tells you if a door is open or your washer or fuel is low. Well laid out with informative graphics and bar graphs. Items blink when something is not right, and the van chimes at you. Very nice.

Separate A/C and heater system for the rear passengers is a really nice touch as well. Not included with newer vans. Rear passengers can choose not only the fan speed, but either heat or A/C as well. This works well as sometimes it gets too hot or cold in the back.

Fog lights are nice and low to the ground, however, every bump you hit breaks them it seems. Have put about 4 sets of fog light housings on my van so far. Luckilly, they are very simple to replace.

3.3L V6 engine is nice and powerful for lugging lots of stuff, or just cruising to and from work or the store. Engine is not the quietest on earth, but it has power when you need it, and is rock solid even after over 500,000 miles!

Transmission is shaky. A604 transmission is known for its unreliability. I have replaced the transmission twice (replaced, not rebuilt!) with new ones. Have gone to an updated version that is used in the later model vans to help improve its reliability. Expect to replace the transmission between 150,000 and 200,000 miles.

Front cabin of the van is very dark at night as there is no overhead lighting. There are only 2 lights on the doors which are not adequate. You have to use the map lights to see anything. Very annoying. Was fixed on later model vans.

This van has held up exceptionally well over the years. It goes to show what routine maintenance and replacing wear parts will do.
