1991 Mitsubishi Colt GLXi review from Iceland
"It's a great car, very good performance and reliability"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The tire on the passenger side, came off, this was after I drove it around 50km with very loud noise, luckily it went off in my driveway, so it didn't damage the car in any way.
The cigarette lighter went out when I plugged my cell phone car charger in it, this was at 165000 km.
The rear-window defroster only defrosts 3 lines out of the whole (about 20 lines id guess). This happened before I got this car.
The exhaust has gone apart, this is because I slid on some ice and went offroad, damaging the exhaust pipe. Now my car makes a Ford mustang sound (well almost)
General comments?
This car has been great to me, I replaced the clutch at 162 000 km, I had it tuned and I had the transmission looked at and fixed too at 162 000.
Since then, I've not had any expensive repairs, the most expensive one was when the tire came off and it was just due to my own stupidity not to have it looked at, It cost ed around 40$ with everything included.
The car runs like a 2002 gallant, well almost, I test drove one, It's real close to the road making it very stable. I've DRIVEN THIS CAR AT 200+ KM/H--/125mph!! (the meter only shows up to 200kmh (125mph) ) On a straight road, not uphill or downhill. And the only thing that couldn't keep up were my eyes, due to darkness. I've also driven this car intown at 170 km/h taking very steep turns, the steering wheel is fairly steady at very unstable roads. This is an awsome car at high speeds.
The interior for the driver and the front passanger seat is very roomy, but as soon as you have backseat passangers you'll have much smaller space, still better then my old subaru justy 1986. It's got a seat heater, and electric window haulers and mirror turners. Which are still working like new.
The looks are semi-modern, this car is aging, but not as fast as the other cars from that age, mitsubishi was always with futuristic looks back in the day. Which is a very good plus.
The fuel economy, driving uphills, downhills, flooring it whenever I feel like, is a steady 9liters/100km. But highway, driving up steep hills at steady 2500 rev's in 5th gear is around 4 liters/100. Yes I found it unbelivable too, but it's true. If you treat the gas pedal right :).
This is a very good car to have, only 90HP, but still, that's really all the power you need when you can get it up to 200 kmh/ 125 mph. Who needs to drive that fast other than crazy germans on bmws? (yes german highways are awsome).
