1987 Holden Commodore VL review from Australia and New Zealand
"Good value transport, but far from exciting"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The switch to the electric fan on the front of the radiator broke. To change it I would have lost my air conditioning gas so it had to be bypassed.
Bearings worn and needed replacing on one wheel.
The fan switch is broken.
The fuel gauge is innaccurate.
Had to replace the alternator.
Have a current problem with the air to fuel ratio that is not caused by the computer or the air flow meter. When it has been tuned it runs well for about a month and then goes out again.
General comments?
A very reliable car with a great engine. The engine is rumoured to have been a BMW design copied by Nissan.
Doesn't burn any oil at all.
It is a very smooth car to drive with good changes and good delivery of power. It has sufficient power to get you into or out of trouble.
There is plenty of cabin space for tall people in both the front and back.
