1992 Volkswagen Variant CL Estate review from UK and Ireland

"Easy on Fuel, Big on space, so so trim"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When I got the car, it was in a horrible, and that I meant its appearance.

It was parked in a village somewhere in Norwich and it appeared to have settled in, with a resident spider and full of algae and dust on all it windows and everywhere. I suspect a bird or something even lived in the engine bay as I cleared a nest lookalike thingy made of woven grass and stuff!

But strangely, every thing worked when I started it first time in months when I collected it on that sunny day.

Though everything behaves in a stiff manner, the g/b is lazy, the windows slowly and the accelerator clumsy, everything worked!

General comments?

I droved 500miles back home that day, all on a tankful of fuel! Boy was I surprised. Remember-it is a Petrol!

The onboard trip computer recorded an average of 65mph and the average fuel consumption displayed was 39.9mpg! $$

The engine, though feels lazy, it feels like a big rhino just getting ready to go. From 50 to 80mph with the right foot down, one can feel the rush on this big estate! Always puts a smile on my face!

The cabin is surprisingly roomy and the leg room is fantastic. but the rear seats are abit soft and the seatbelts anchor are really getting in the way of the butt! So only slim people will fit. But the Germans are not small! Strange...

The cargo space can fit an elephant.

It is a waste that the steering cannot be tilted or reached adjusted, as the rest of the electric pack like electric windows/mirrors/sunroof are all fantastic.

One real bad point though.. The interior plastics are a real show stopper, appearing cheap and poorly made.
