1999 MG F VVC review from UK and Ireland
"I love the car to bits despite a few niggles and "varied" dealer service"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
A few niggles.
Mild problems with the hood getting two small holes in it caused by getting trapped in the hood mechanism. Still got the two small holes. They don't leak, but don't look good. Happened only last year ('04).
Head gasket blew at around 50,000 miles. Repaired quickly and cheaply by specialist. Took advantage of the situation and got the head gas flowed at the same time.
I managed to break the brakes on a track day in '03. The calliper was simply put under too much repetitive stress on the track. Ooops. Brakes replaced at the front with upgraded calipers.
General comments?
The car is badly setup from scratch by the dealers.
Every driver should get the car (suspension) setup professionally if at all possible. It improves handling and safety. Well worth every penny.
There is a wonderful MG scene on the web who will help with advice if you need it.
The car is a fantastic compromise sports car. It handles very well while staying comfortable.
