2002 Toyota Corolla Altis review from Indonesia
"A great car!!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Battery was replaced after 1 1/2 years.
Driver side power window went dead after 2 years (U$100 with labor).
Squeaking sound from the front suspension or chassis. Re lubed and no problems so far.
Noisy A/C compressor. Re oiled compressor. Problem disappeared ($50).
Noisy engine at low rpm. Due to the fact that the engine doesn't use a floating or spring loaded belt tensioner.
General comments?
This is a great car! I have the pre VVT-i engine and so far, it performs like a champ.
Quick and nimble for urban driving.
Fuel efficient for a 1.8 liter engine.
Very reliable, easy maintanence, cheap spare parts, cheap labour cost here in Indonesia, plenty of Toyota dealerships around the city.
Manual tranny is a joy to drive! Very smooth gear changing, especially after filing it up with Red Line MT-90 Synthetic Oil, highly recommended!
Power steering is smooth and light.
Handles OK, but because of its high ground clearance, a little body roll when cornering at high speeds. But this is an economy car and not a sports car.
The cabin is spacious, the rear seat is spacious, and so is the trunk.
A very smooth car and a joy to drive and own!!!
