1986 Toyota Landcruiser G Pak review from Australia and New Zealand
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Overheated (cooling system wasn't maintained!)
Gearbox kept sticking in third gear (gearbox was replaced)
General comments?
Excellent 4WD for my needs. Reasonably comfortable. Reasonably quiet. Very reliable. Vehicle has character. Cheap on fuel (26mpg). Great pulling power with the factory direct injection turbo diesel and 5 speed manual.
Came with dual batteries, long range tank (1100km's per tank), side steps with alloy bullbar, Sunraysia wheels. Power steering. Hayman Reese heavy duty tow package. Central locking.
I fitted - Airtek snorkel, UHF CB, spotties, H4 rally headlights (100w high beam) and perspex covers, air horns, new radiator, new windscreen, mobile phone car kit, Alpine CD/Radio and Alpine 12cd stacker. 12v outlet (for fridge).
Will fit - locking diff at rear, roof console.
Want to do - more height and better suspension. SS water tank. Lightforce spotlights.
Other accessories - Garmin Etrex GPS and Acer laptop. Waeco fridge/freezer (80 litre). 12v to 240v inverter. Small console with lid - near gearshift (made myself).
Wish list - nice alloy wheels and aggressive tyres (33"). Front diff lock. Intercooler. Comfortable aftermarket drivers seat.
I'm very happy with this 4WD. It allows me and my family (it's a 6 seater) to get out and enjoy the bush. We just love this car!
