1991 Ford Explorer XLT review from North America
"Reliable, comfortable, stylish SUV"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Wheel bearings needed to be repacked at 40000 miles.
Power steering pump began making noise and was replaced at 77,000 miles.
Oil pan began leaking a bit at 80,000 miles.
Of course, brakes, shocks, and tires had to be replaced, nothing out of the ordinary.
General comments?
This was a fantastic vehicle. I wish I had purchased another Explorer instead of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. This thing just kept going and going and going. I had no issues with the transmission or engine, and it proved to be quite comfortable (it rode much more comfortably than my Jeep does). Gas mileage was so so, maybe 16 or 17 to the gallon. The engine was a bit underpowered, but not terrible. I would recommend this vehicle, my friend has one with over 200k on the original power train.
