1997 Citroen AX review from UK and Ireland
"Excellent first time car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Pin-sized hole in the coolant pipes.
General comments?
Superb car - apart from a tiny hole in the coolant pipes. The Citroen Garage couldn't spot the problem, offering instead to replace the cylinder head gaskets, it took my dad's mate to spot the problem and fix it for £20.
Apart from that, this car has run amazingly, no breakdowns, no trouble, superb little city car (just last week I beat an Audi TT at every traffic light along Glasgow's Saughie Hall Street).
The main negative points are that you cannot get the acceleration up at higher speeds for safe overtaking on country lanes, and the seats are so uncomfortable you get a really bad back driving for more than a few hours at a time.
It also seems to have been broken into very easily - but being such an unimpressive vehicle, all that was stolen was a tin of beans in the driver side door pocket..
(I regularly return to the car to find a note on the dashboard asking me to go to the local plod station, as keys were left in door/ignition)
