1996 Peugeot 806 SRTD review from UK and Ireland
"Out of this world"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing as such, but I replaced the following:
Brake pads, shoes, discs, and cylinder.
Car had 165k miles on it, and had not had the brake overhauled for over 90k miles, so as a car used by the wife and our young kids, I thought better safe then sorry, plus all in all it only cost 150 pounds.
General comments?
Plus points:
35-42 Mpg with a lead right foot.
Sliding side doors are amazing when you have 2 young children.
We have the 8 seat version and the room for 8 adults is really quiet amazing. We fit in 6 adults, 2 young children, and 2 prams in the "boot" area, AMAZING.
The car is very quiet indeed, more so then our 406 or previous Espace (phase 3).
Very comfortable for either long or short trips.
There are 2 issues I have with the 806 though.
1. It's darn UGLY.
2. The 1.9 TDI unit is very underpowered when you need to floor it. Once going it's whisper quiet both at 30mph and at 90mph, yes officer I said 70mph, and does really fly along once you hit 45-50mph, but getting there can "sometimes" be a little painful, but I suppose anything will seem slow compared to a 2L HDI 406 or the 2.2 TDi Phase 3 Espace.
Our 806 is 10 years old and had done 170k miles. I am amazed that it is really whisper quiet and does upto 42mpg, I will be getting another.
Previously we had a 99 2.2 TDi Phase 3 Espace, which looked great, was great inside, amazing performance, however in the first 6 months we spend over 2K on it, and it was in the garage for 4 months. After that, we had a 4 year old 406 HDi for 6 months, nothing could be faulted bar its size. We needed an MPV, it was good for 6 months and one heck of a car, we loved it, shame really.
So in closing, the 806 is amazing, at this point (6 months on) I can't fault ANYTHING, well done Peugeot (just lower the price of parts please).
