1998 Ford Galaxy Ghia review from UK and Ireland
"Good all rounder"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I bought my 1998 Galaxy in November 2004. It's a 2.3 16V Ghia with automatic gearbox. I have noticed that after the car warms up, there is a knocking which appears to be from the front suspension and is felt through the steering most prominently when traveling over light bumps at around 20mph. I have had the car checked out twice by mechanics who could not find the problem and have also put it through the M.O.T. successfully without it being picked up. When the car is cold, the problem does not appear to be there. If anyone has experienced a similar problem and hadi it solved, please let me know on tlegg@uep.uk.com.
General comments?
Generally I have found the car very good. The bodywork has done extremely well in 7 years without any sign of rust and stone chipping is minimal.
The interior is light grey/beige with a beige carpet. I think this is probably not the best choice of interior as the carpet, being light coloured, always looks dirty no matter how much you clean it.
The car is very practical as all the passenger seats can be removed, although being 'real' seats, they are very heavy and you'll find yourself sweating once you've removed them all.
Ride, handling, noise etc., is all good, but fuel consumption is heavy at around 20-22 mpg in town and 25-27 on journeys.
