2004 Daihatsu Sirion GTvi review from Australia and New Zealand
"This little pocket rocket could've had more potential from Daihatsu"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Bit of an unsmooth feel with the clutch pedal - cable was replaced at 3,000 kms, but problem is back. More than likely the problem is with inadequate lubrication on the input shaft where the throwout bearing slides back and forth on. Will require gearbox R+R for rectification which is covered by its new car warranty.
General comments?
An awesome little motor - 1.3 litre with variable valve timing and redline of 7,500rpm. Good for a 0-100km/h burst in about 8 or 9 seconds.
Average handling, but probably better than the poverty stock M100 Sirion.
A little crampy for tall drivers, otherwise it's fairly comfortable on long trips.
Amazing fuel economy - around 5.5 litres per 100 kms.
New Sirions (M300) do not have a GTvi model and the 1.3 litre motor has been downgraded to only 64kw. The GTvi has a 75kw motor and only weighs around 800kg. The new Sirion is heavier, hence it's a slug.
