2003 Ford Ranger XLT review from UK and Ireland
"Great to drive, great for the family, great to look at, a great advert for our company"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Noisy Rear Differential.
Broken rear Suspension leaf spring.
Glow plugs were replaced during a routine service under warranty because it was becoming more reluctant to start in the cold mornings.
Clutch has been replaced under warranty due to severe judder when pulling away.
The glow plug light stars flushing every now and again which I believe is some sort of code for the dealer, but they have not been able to stop it happening yet.
General comments?
On the whole I enjoy this truck because-
It looks great with the high truckman top on and can carry huge amounts of gear in a securely and dry.
Offered the best value for money considering the equipment levels at the time of purchase.
Fuel consumption averages 25-28 mpg regardless of how hard its driven which is not that bad.
It can seat the whole family (5) comfortably with air conditioning, a decent sounding CD player (not multiply though),and the expected electrics.
Though there have been some problems particularly the diff. they have been sorted under the warranty and it has never let me down.
The tyre amaze me as they are still the originals and look as though they will reach 50000 miles before reaching the wear indicators.
Off road it performs very well even though the mud will come in through the door seals when it gets above the wheel tops, but 4 wheel drive system which locks the rear diff (not to be used for normal road driving) seems to be able to get up almost any gravelly slope or through water and mud effortlessly.
So I will see how the next 12 months go to decide whether I have another Ranger or shop around for an alternative Pickup.
