1993 Geo Metro Base review from North America

"The coolest little car ever!!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Oil leak.

Starter.

General comments?

Fantastic little car!!! It is my first car and got me to high school and part/full time jobs every day. It just never quits.

The little 3-cylinder is tiny but has plenty of guts. I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains and drive up steep roads all the time and the car just zooms up them as though they're not there.

I've even driven it up to 11,000 feet and over 4WD trails and it just won't stop.

It's also cool that even with the automatic (which is geared absolutely perfectly) I get 38 mpg. I don't even care about the rising fuel prices!!!

Inside the car is a little cramped. The front seats are a little cheap, but there's plenty of room up there. The back seat is a joke. With four people on board it is just plain misery. The trunk is also small but fold down the useless back seat and you have more room than in a full-size sedan. Treat the car as a two seater and it's cool.

The interior design is nice and still attractive although some trim pieces are starting to come loose. And the vinyl door trim is really gross. The car is a little basic, no A/C (definitely needed), no power steering (not really needed), no rear defroster, no cargo cover, no cargo light, no coat hooks, and no adjustable headrests. But for a $9,000 new car what do you expect?

Exterior styling is still cool too. The front end looks real tight, but the back is a little bland. But people still ask if it's a new car which is nice considering it's 7 years old. My best friend just bought a new Ford Focus which he likes to show off, but I still prefer my trusty Metro. Besides it's paid for.

Overall a great car, especially for students. I'm hoping mine lasts me all through college and I would exactly like to keep it forever. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat! Except next time I'd get the four-door hatch and A/C. Too bad GM is going to kill it off this year.
