1992 Honda Prelude review from UK and Ireland
"A vehicle to suit all driving needs"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear Brakes light needs frequent replacement. Conversion from kilometres to miles has not been done properly.
General comments?
I am proud to own the import version which offers a lot more car for the money.
I would recommend an import model over the UK model even though the insurance is slightly more. My cousin owns a UK model I have had the opportunity to compare the specifications in both vehicles.
- The import prelude has 195 bhp and the UK model has 183 bhp.
- The import prelude has a sports setting on the gearstick and the UK model prelude has a semi automatic automatic transmission (I prefer the sports setting)
- Import prelude comes with electric mirrors and electric drivers seat, traction control and climate control.
- None of the above are available on the UK model.
- ATTS (active transfer torque system) available on the import, although I am not sure if this is available on the uk model.
ATTS works wonders on this FWD car as it is common knowledge that front wheel drive cars understeer. The ATTS will reduce torque transfer to the front wheel nearest to the kerb which makes cornering a hell of a lot more fun.
The vtec engine is fantastic and you get a shove in the back when you get to that changover and see it through to the rev limiter at 7500 rpm.
Overall a fantastic car to cruise and to hammer when you feel the urge.
The car is a little heavy on fuel and with the added luxuries of climate control this has a tendancy to slightly increase the revs, hence higher fuel consumption.
Rear seats are cramped and in my opinion, I think honda would have been better just not adding them into the vehicle.
The perspex sweeping dash lights up when the engine is started giving you a feel that you are sitting in something special.
As the petrol heads... There are a lot of aftermarket tuning parts available for this car. At the moment my car has a HKS filter and a de catted stainless steel exhaust and is currently running at 210 bhp. Who knows in the future I may even add a turbo...
