1953 Oldsmobile 98 Super De Luxe review from North America

Being such an old model, I've had to replace a lot of old parts.

I had to replace most of the gaskets.

Radiator and heater core had to be replaced.

Most of the wiring had cracked and decayed from age. That had to be replaced.

Fuel pump went out.

Interior has faded and deteriorated from age.

When I bought this car, it had sat since 1981. I had to replace the general stuff like the radiator, heater core, wiring, carburetor, plug wires and plugs, and stuff like that. The old engine fired right up and still runs like a top.

This car was bought mainly as a project car, but my 2001 Pontiac Sunfire laid down and died on me at only 90,000 miles, so I started driving the Oldsmobile. I've driven it for a couple of years now daily, and have never had any major problems with the car. It starts right up, runs smooth, rides good, and is so comfortable.

The car has plenty of power. It handles great and drives better than a lot of the newer cars and trucks I've driven. The interior had deteriorated from age, but has really held up fairly well. I'll be redoing the interior soon.

This car sits up off the ground too. You can actually see the traffic, and don't feel so small and helpless in traffic congestion.

For a 52 year old car, I'm truly impressed! Oldsmobile really knew how to build them back then. Compared to many of the new cars on the road, this car is better in a lot of ways. It's fun to drive, and it gets decent gas mileage too!
