2002 HSV Clubsport VY1 review from Australia and New Zealand

"A fine car but you do need the performance to match"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Power aeriel would not retract correctly.

Front passenger door unable to lock consistently due to electronic fault.

Above average oil consumption.

Engine a bit to noisy for my liking (sounds like tappet ticking or something else more sinister).

Brake pads needed skimming due to brake shake.

General comments?

Exterior looks: This is a beautiful looking car in sting red with 18" mags, spoiler and body-kit. It is to Holden's credit that they at least keep slightly ahead of their main competitor (Ford's comparable models) in the looks department.

Performance: After previously owning a Vt2 Calais with slightly modified 5.7. I am somewhat disappointed by the sluggish acceleration from this car. However, she does pump along quite well once the revs get up.

Interior: Quite an improvement from Vt and Vx models. The dash does give me a sport feeling and I do fancy the green illumination during low light. Blaupunkt stereo system sounds great, but mp3 playing ability would be nice. Seating comfortability is a little tight for us bigger blokes and the passanger's seat cannot be adjusted up or down.

Overall: A fine looking car which gets all the aaahhh's and ooohhh's from pedestrians and other car owners alike. But you cannot own a sporty sedan that struggles to beat Japanese 6's or even some 4's off the mark. I'm now moving up to a 285Kw Vy2 R8 to see if there is any improvement.
