2002 Volkswagen Passat review from North America
"I will not buy another VW and would not recommend this car to anyone!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Two headlights went out within 2 years.
Radio went out after 2 years. Fuse had to be replaced. One knob on radio is loose and will come off if pulled.
Oil sludge problem at 40,000 miles, $1200 to fix. I had to have car towed to nearest dealership.
Glove box handle is loose and it has to be opened very carefully or I fear it will fall off!
Left trunk hinge is broken now so I can't use the trunk until it is fixed. Cost of part is $75.00.
Windshield wipers haven't worked properly for 3 years, but are too costly to replace.
Must use high test gasoline or car will
"hesitate" and not start properly.
Plastic around dashboard and leather on steering wheel has faded and looks
cheap now.
Recall on seat heater.
General comments?
The seats are very comfortable (one part of the car I really like!), and the mileage is good, despite having to use high test gasoline.
This car has a great, sporty look, however looks can be deceiving! The car has been a problem since I bought it 4 years ago. I am looking forward to making my last lease payment in 7 months so I can get rid of it!! I have owned 4 Camry's and one Accord and never had ANY problems with them.
