1999 GMC Van Explorer review from North America
"Best family transport around"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Just needed a battery...that's it!.
General comments?
Outstanding comfort and performance (relative to size). Drives like a car. Bought this Savana Explorer conversion van in '01 and never regretted it. At first I was concerned about parking it and things like going through drive through restaurants because it is a hight top but it is not a problem.
I own an S class Mercedes and a Cadillac Fleetwood as well but nothing matches the comfort level of the conversion van. This is the vechicle the family always wants to go for an outing in. The TV/DVD/VCR is perfect for keeping the kids quiet. Plenty of electrical outlets for things like coolers, phones, etc. Seats 7 in total comfort. Rear seats recline into a bed.
I have added an MP3 player, 2 MTX amps and 3 10" MTX subwoofers for some nice sound and 20" Chrome wheels w/275 45 20 tires that greatly improved ride/handling and looks.
I average about 16 mpg. Considering the size of this van, I think the mpg is great.
Only complaint would have to be the use of cheap plastics on the inside which is typical of most American vechicles. Get past that and it really is pure luxury.
