1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 9C1 review from North America

"Loved it, wish I still had it, want another!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The speedometer quit working and after the second time fixing it, I just drove without it. It quit because of bad grounding.

The ground post attached to the fuse box under the hood kept coming loose and causing the car to stall.

Something went wrong with the starter which caused the 140amp alternator to fry which caused the battery to die.

The transmission needed to be rebuilt at 180,000 miles.

The optispark (type of distributor) went bad once.

The engine finally spun a bearing real badly and needed a rebuild at 240,000 miles.

Oh yeah- the tail pipes and sometimes rear bumper drag when going up or baking out of steep drives.

General comments?

Awesome car!

I bought it as a used state patrol car (which meant it was plenty abused), and I abused it some more by doing 0-123mph runs frequently, power-braking to show off every now and then, racing at the NHRA quarter-mile track, and street racing if anyone dared.

This car performed like a monster, knocking down low 15-second runs completely stock... and after adding cold air, complete exhaust, and new street tires it made low 14's (a best of 13.96 seconds at 98mph)!

One of the most comfortable rides I've been in... would be better with bolstered leather seats like those from the Pontiac Bonneville or something.

Brakes were awesome.

Handled great for being so heavy.

Strong engine, with perfect reversed cooling set-up (never over heats).

Plenty of after market and car club support.

Replacement parts are way too expensive!

Obvious tons of room in cab and trunk, plus towing capacity.

Never had any problems on rain, snow, or even ice. (because of the weight).

Get one! I dream of getting another (i gave this one to my brother so he can rebuild it and keep it), if my wife lets me.

If I took better care of it, I would still be driving it today! That thing was nearly indestructible!
