1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass SL review from North America
"Cutlass Supreme 4 ever!! Thank you OLDS!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
98,000 miles: I replaced the alternator.
108,000 miles: I had the fuel pump replaced, due to intermittent stalling/no start, it was found to be the fuel pump (fuel pump went bad because of running the car for extended periods of time with low fuel level... my fault)
General comments?
First off, I want to say that the car I am speaking of is the Cutlass Supreme, not to be confused with the Chevrolet Malibu's twin Cutlass. I didn't see Cutlass Supreme as an option on the drop down list.
With that being said, this car has been extremely reliable, and according to most of the other reviews of it, it looks like this is just an overall great car. I love my Cutlass Supreme, and I have no doubt that it'll easily surpass 200,000 miles. It has already surpassed my previous 1994 Toyota Camry, which only had 86,000 miles when the engine self destructed. Needless to say, I will never again buy that Toyota junk!
My Cutlass Supreme has leather interior, floor shifter, CD and tape deck, steering wheel mounted controls for the stereo, as well as controls for the temperature and fan speed for the climate control, which is digital I might add. It also has dual zone climate for the driver and front passenger. It has keyless entry, power seat, pretty much the whole 9 yards. I am 6'5 and 250 lbs. and am very comfortable driving this car. My wife loves it, and our daughter who is 18 months fits very well with her car seat and all of her gear.
This car has a very smooth ride, still with the original suspension, yet it handles extremely well. We have never encountered the problem with the intake manifold gasket, and check our fluid levels regularly, and it shows no signs of leaking. Get up and go is not what it used to be, but it still gets the job done well, and still has enough "oomph" to chirp the tires a little bit from a stand still. The engine in this car is a God send, it still sounds like it did when it was brand new (to us), it runs very quietly and smooth. It is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.
Both the interior (tan leather) and exterior (black) have held up very well. We live in the Buffalo, NY region right in the snow belt area, and the car is showing no signs of rusting, and the interior is still very sturdy too.
This is just an all around beautiful, dependable, reliable, safe and sturdy car that has never done us any wrong. And the best part of all, it's paid for, and IT'S AMERICAN!!
