1978 MG BGT review from UK and Ireland
"A flawed, but very charismatic car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alternator failed @ 117,000 miles
Prop shaft U. J snapped @ 120,000 miles,
Clutch needed replacing @ 120,000 miles,
Temperature sensor needed replacing @ 120,000 miles,
Rocker gasket also needed replacing due to leak @ 119,000 miles,
and the fuel level sender also failed, also at 119,000 miles.
General comments?
The car is fairly quick, with good handling and a fantastic exhaust note.
The cabin is very plasticky, but is also very spacious (Even for me, 6'1", and broad across the shoulders).
The driving position in this car is perfect, nice and low and you feel like you're going twice as fast as you really are.
Even though it is close on a 30 year old car now, it still handles everyday traffic well, and never feels short of power.
Looks fantastic, and a real head turner.
Don't expect the comforts of a modern car, and expect to have to maintain the car regularly, and you'll love driving this car, even on the way to work!
