1990 Rover - Austin Metro Mg review from Australia and New Zealand
"For everyone who discounts them because they're british, don't! they're reliable, fun and cheap 2 ru"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing broke on it except for the day the new owner picked it up the fuel gauge lost the plot.
This is the only reason I would'nt give it a 10.
The floor mats are not fitted and are never where they're supposed to be.
General comments?
This car goes like a scolded cat, but it is handicapped by its prehistoric gearbox which curses it at 100kph because of the low gearing you cannot change down (New Zealand roads are s*** and do not avoid hills) this means that passing manouvers must be planned carefully. This is why I think it is only a 7 in terms of performance. It handled very well which is due to its excellent (but equally prehistoric) air suspension.
The budget conscious english failed to put in proper if any sound proofing which combined with its cruising (in) ability means that long motorway trips you really need earmuffs.
This runs on the smell of an oily rag!
