1995 Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi Coupe review from Australia and New Zealand

"A hoot to drive, well made and pretty quick"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

A bit of trim seems to be broken (might have come like that)

General comments?

The 1.8L engine is powerful, perky and willing and from 3500rpm it really is impressively powerful.

Its well quick enough to overtake quickly and slip into fast traffic and really puts a grin on your face when you let it rev a bit plus it sounds nice and sporty doing it.

But its not that torquey down low and really needs to be over 3000rpm for ANY meaningfull accleration.

You can hear a bit of a exhaust drone at highway speeds plus the tyre noise is rather intrusive (to the point of not being able to hear the back seat passengers at all well)

The suspension is rather stiff, so the ride comfort is not great on rougher roads.

The upside of this is that it corners very flat and seems to let you enter corners quite a lot faster than you feel you can (also good for putting a smile on your face!)

Nicely direct, well weighted steering.

Also with highway fuel consumption of 6-8L/100km its pretty cheap to run.

And in bright red with a subtle factory body-kit it still looks good (and sporty) 10yrs on.

The trim does seem a little tacky.

Seats are comfortable and supportive.

Headlights are not that bright

The rear passenger does not get much leg room.
