2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS review from North America
"The VW Jetta GLS 1.8T is the worst investment I have ever made"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Check engine light constantly turns on.
Mass air flow sensor had to be replaced twice.
Oil pump has failed twice.
Timing belt has slipped once causing approximately $3,000 worth of damage to engine.
Driver and front windows have slipped down into door.
Headlamps and blinker lights frequently go out.
Poor engine area protection from the elements. Have gone to beach several times only to return to find large amounts of sand on top of my engine block.
Center arm rest console has broken and no longer supports my arm.
General comments?
This car has been a nightmare. It has proven to be a money pit. This car has to be repaired too often and there appears to be no end in sight. This car is a big lemon and would advise anyone to stay away from vw's.
In addition to the problems I have had with this car, I have also had similar problems just like the ones I've read in this forum. There have been several recalls on some components of my car such as engine coils etc,. The quality of the components-in my car
have proven to be extremely poor. This has resulted in repeated expenses for me. No more vw's for me.
