2001 Dodge Durango SLT review from United Arab Emirates
"Very comfortable, very unreliable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I bought the car used in March of 2005, and from then I was never happy with the brake performance, which deteriorated and needed a Brake Servo change. Interestingly, other Durango owners have told me that they named the car 'dodge' because they can't stop!
The most alarming fault came next, when the steering 'locked' at full lock while I was making a U-turn. Power steering fluid was leaking from the steering rack, which freed up with considerable force in order to get me from where I was now dangerously
stopped. To repair this fault required the steering rack be changed.
The gearbox has failed now, and the car is currently in the local dealer for a repair quoted at $961.00 PLUS parts.
When the car returns I intend to make one-single trip to the nearest car sales room where I will part with the car for whatever I'm offered above the cost of the current gearbox repair.
General comments?
The car is lovely to drive, and performs really well. Equipment level is outstanding, and it's the first car that I enjoyed owning for quite some time.
I would not now have the confidence in this vehicle to make any further trip past the nearest sales room.
It's the first, and definitely the very last time that I will own a Dodge.
