2001 Mitsubishi Carisma GDI Equippe review from UK and Ireland
"Good buy under 30k miles"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The GDI system is the worst thing about the car, otherwise it would have been a much better long term motor with a standard 16v 1.8 unit. The GDI is now playing up and the dealer had repaired it, first under warranty, and they now want over 900 to clean and reservice. Mitsubishi engineers thought the GDI was a technical marvel of the combustion engine, how wrong they were.
General comments?
1.8 16v GDI 125bhp and plenty of spec including computer, aircon, elec windows, mirror, central locking etc is great deal for the money and the build apart from the door and pillar welds are good. It's never let us down once regarding not starting. The handling is rubbish, and can step out if driven even slightly hard.
Cannot believe its the same manufacturer who make the EVO's!!! Don't buy a GDI with over 20K unless you want to end spending loads repairing the system - it causes misfires, poor performance and rubbish mpg around 50K.
