1991 Mercedes-Benz W124 230CE review from Malaysia

Front shocks at 93,000m

Replaced all fuses at 94,000m

Alternator replaced at 95,000m

Single wiper needs greasing - haven't done that yet.

Usual servicing every 10,000km.

Mine's a 230CE and I bought it as it's cheaper to maintain.

With all windows down, the pillarless coupe looks fabulous! Comfort inside is exceptional, the ride is creamy and refined. Run your hands along the varnished wood, grasp the door handle, fiddle with the controls - everything feels as solid as the day it left the factory. And that was 15 years ago.

Electric seats are comfortable on short and long distances. Air cond is nice and cool. One letdown, though, is the radio reception. Otherwise, the CD changer turns my cabin into a theatre. Boot space swallows large luggages easily.

Nice little touches all 'round: heated wing mirrors, heated seats, illuminated ash tray, and a cabin that lights up like a Concorde cockpit. It's what makes the Mercedes worthy of a 3-pointed star.

Handling? It rolls a little on corners. Being a pre-1992 model, it's factory fitted to start in 2nd gear. Sluggish at first, but picks up with athletic vigour after 2500rpms. A lot of components are easy to fix DIY. You own this car to be part of its life.
